This post is long overdue but last month we had the fortune of traveling to Maui for the holiday and absolutely loved it! We stayed in Kaanapalli, which was so green and so lush, I really never wanted to leave.
A friend recommended the Honua Kai Resort and Spa, and I am so glad that she did. The resort had both hotel accommodations and condo units. We stayed in a ground level condo unit, with amazing sliding glass doors that opened up the entire living space so you could feel the breeze. We also had a house cat! My son became obsessed with this cat and the many cats on the properties. If you ask him today what his favorite part of the trip was, the cats probably rank number one or two! We spent most of our days at Honua Kai, either at the amazing pools, or catching the sunsets on the beach which were steps from the resort. They also have an open, airy Dukes restaurant on site which was perfect on the days we didn’t cook or use the community grills.
We did spend some days exploring other beaches and bays on Maui. Just a quick drive north you can find the Honulua Bay which is known for its snorkeling and beautiful rocky beach. We hiked through the most lush green forest which led out to the bay. We also explored Kapalua Bay which is just out of this world gorgeous. One of the most serene beaches I’ve ever been to. Black Rock beach is another must see. It’s known for its rock jumping but sea turtles can be spotted as well. We camped out here all day then had lunch in Whalers Village.
Another amazing day was when we took a catamaran out to Molokini for snorkeling. I knew my son would jump in right away but I thought my daughter might be more hesitant. She totally proved me wrong! She put her fins on and jumped right in! The water was pristine, like nothing I’ve seen before, turquoise, vibrant, schools of fish, it was fantastic!
Lastly, we had such a fun night at the Drums of the Pacific Luau Seriosuly, so much fun! The dancing, the drums, the fire, my kids were loving it. This was the perfect venue for younger kids. Maui in general is such a magical spot and I feel so grateful for getting to experience the island with the kiddos, at this age. It was the best trip! If you’re traveling to Hawaii anytime soon please reach out, I’d love to share all my tips. Thanks for being here!
